How to Make a Cookie Costume for Girl Scouts
Girl Scout cookie season is anticipated all year by both the Girl Scouts and their customers. A clever way to increase cookie sales is having young Girl Scouts dress up in enticing cookie costumes. The official Girl Scout cookie costume is expensive and has to be shared by a whole troop, but you can make a unique costume for a Girl Scout of her favorite cookie. No one will be able to turn down such a cute salesgirl.
Things You'll Need
- 2 large sheets light or dark brown felt
- Fabric scissors
- 2 yards brown grosgrain ribbon
- Needle
- Brown thread
- Dark brown paint
- Sponge
- 2 yards colored felt (green, red or purple)
- White paint

Make the Cookie
-
1
Have the Girl Scout lie down on a sheet of felt. Draw a circle for the cookie shape with the top at her shoulders and the bottom just above her knees.
-
2
Cut out the two matching circles of brown felt; use light brown for Samoas or dark brown for Tagalongs or Thin Mints.
-
-
3
Hold the circles up to the Girl Scout. Make a mark at the tops of her shoulders on each circle and another mark just under her armpits on each circle.
-
4
Cut the grosgrain ribbon into eight equal pieces. Sew one piece at each mark so that they tie to connect the circles over each shoulder and under each arm.

Make a Tagalong with dark brown felt. Measure a piece of red felt so it fits diagonally across the front of the cookie. Paint “Tagalong” in white paint onto the red felt sash. Sew or hot glue the sash onto the front of the cookie.

6
Make a Thin Mint with dark brown felt by sponging a darker brown paint all over both sides of the cookie. This will give it the textured, mottled look of a Thin Mint. Measure a piece of green felt so it fits diagonally across the front of the cookie. Paint “Thin Mint” in white paint onto the green felt sash. Sew or hot glue the sash onto the front of the cookie.

Make a Samoa with light brown felt by painting dark brown, vertical squiggles on both sides of the cookie to look like the chocolate drizzle. Measure a piece of purple felt so it fits diagonally across the front of the cookie. Paint “Samoas” in white paint onto the purple felt sash. Sew or hot glue to sash onto the front of the cookie.

Tips & Warnings
Create any of the other Girl Scout favorites the same way. Just use the appropriate color felt, paint on the design and create a sash that corresponds with the color of that particular box. Other popular cookie varieties are Do-Si-Dos (peanut butter sandwich cookie in an orange box), Chalet Cremes (rectangular lemon cookie sandwich in a yellow box) and Trefoils (shortbread cookie in the shape of the Girl Scout symbol in an aqua box).
