How to Make a Hinged Jewelry Box
Make your own jewelry box by using an unfinished box and lid purchased from any craft store and adding hinges to it. This is a simple craft that you can personalize for the recipient of the box. You have unlimited possibilities as far as decorating the box goes, and the supplies needed are both inexpensive and easy to find. Make a box for yourself with your own creative decorating style or as a thoughtful gift for a friend or loved one.

1
Remove the lid from the box and paint the inside and outside of both the box and the lid with acrylic paint. You may have to paint a second coat to get it the shade you want. You can also use stencils if you want to paint shapes on it such as butterflies if this is a gift for a young girl.

2
Attach the hinges to the box, with one on the far left side and one on the far right side of the box. Each hinge will have a row of holes on either side of it in which you screw one to the lid of the box and one to the box itself.

3
Finish decorating the outside of the box with your choice of embellishments such as rubber stamps, glue and glitter or rhinestones.

4
Cut a piece of velvet that will fit inside the box and glue it to the bottom-inside of the jewelry box. If you want separate compartments in the box, you can cut dividers from cardstock and slide them into the box in whatever pattern you like. Glue a small mirror to the inside of the lid.
