Instructions

    • 1

Measure out a rectangle on your green cloth about 2-by-4 1/2 feet long. Make the rug longer or shorter, but keep the proportions the same. For example; if you make a rug 3 feet wide, the length should be 6 3/4 feet.

    • 2

Cut out the green cloth rectangle. Lay this rectangle on the rest of your green cloth, trace around it, and cut out a second green cloth. These pieces are the top and bottom sides of your rug.

    • 3

Measure the length of your rug and divide it by 10 to find the width of your yard lines. Draw lines on your rug to represent your 10 yard lines.

    • 4

Cut 10 1-inch wide strips of white cloth out and sew them to your rug along every yard line you drew. Keep them as straight as possible.

    • 5

Each end of your rug is the end zone of your football field. Pick a side and move one yard line down. Place the number 10 on this yard line, at the top side of the rug. Position the numbers so they run along the width of your rug.

    • 6

Sew the remaining numbers in place. Continue to add the numbers 20, 30, 40 and 50 to the proceeding yard lines in the same way. Add 40, 30, 20 and 10 to the lines after that. Sew them all in place.

    • 7

Lay the shiny side of your second green rectangle on top of your first rectangle. Line up the edges perfectly, then sew them together with your needle and thread. Sew until you have one side open.

    • 8

Pull the rug inside out through the hole you left. Stuff the rug with cotton batting to give it extra bulk. Stop stuffing if the rug starts to bulge. Smooth out bumps or uneven spots in the rug and sew the last side together.
