Knitting a Circular Scarf With Fun Fur

A circular scarf, referred to as a cowl or mobius, can be easily knit with circular knitting needles. After casting on the required stitches, you join both ends of the row to form a circle and knit several rounds. Most brands of yarn sell fun fur in a wide range of colors, and the skeins are labeled as fun fur. If you have never seen fun fur before, search for yarn that looks hairy. The following pattern is one size fits all.

Instructions

    • 1

Cast on 44 stitches with three strands of fun fur. Hold the needle with the string of yarn in your right hand and the other knitting needle in your left. Knit a stitch and pull the tail of yarn snug. This joins the two ends of the cast-on yarn into a circle.

    • 2

Knit in the round until the scarf reaches 11 inches or the length you prefer. Bind it off with a straight knitting needle when you reach the beginning of the last row. To bind off, knit two stitches. With the left needle, lift the first stitch you just knitted up and over the second stitch and off the knitting needle. From this point, knit only one stitch, lift the previous stitch up and over and off the knitting needle.

Stop before the last stitch and cut the yarn to leave a tail. Take the last stitch or loop off the needle and slip-stitch the tail through it. Pull the tail to form a knot and weave it into your work to hide it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Knit the cowl extra long so you can pull it up to cover your head as well as your neck if desired.
