DIY Speaker Wall Brackets

DIY Speaker Wall Brackets thumbnail
Position your speakers with simple wall brackets.

Many home theater speaker systems use small speakers that can be mounted to the wall. This has the advantage of keeping the speakers off of the floor and at the proper height for optimal listening while also freeing up table and bookshelf space. Most of these speakers don't come with wall brackets however, and this can be expensive. A simple set of wall brackets for your speakers can be made from readily available materials from your home improvement store. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 6-inch-long pieces of 1-by-6-inch board. Sand the edges of the boards to remove any splinters or burrs.

    • 2

Drill a hole in the center of each of the boards. Countersink the hole so it is large enough for the head of your bolt.

    • 3

Slide your bolts though the holes in the boards. Put a washer on each bolt and then tighten a nut on each bolt.

    • 4

Drill a hole 1 inch in from each of the corners on each board. Hold each board up to the position where you want to mount the bracket on the wall. Mark the position of each hole on the wall with a pencil.

    • 5

Drill a hole at each of the marked positions and place a hollow wall anchor into each hole. Place the bracket against the wall with the bolt facing out and insert the screws into the bracket holes. Tighten the screws into the anchors until the brackets are flush with the wall.

    • 6

Place the threaded insert on the back of your speaker onto the protruding bolts. Tighten the speaker onto the bolt.

Tips & Warnings

  • Different models of speakers come with different size mounting threads on the back. Take one of your speakers with you when you shop for materials to make sure you get the right size.

  • Paint or stain your brackets to match your decor if you desire.
