How to Frame a Resin Table

How to Frame a Resin Table thumbnail
Apply flexible moulding to frame the tabletop for resin treatment.

You attach an edging or frame to resin tables to give a decorative border. Resin tables are created by pouring epoxy resin over a surface that may have been decorated with tiles or jewelry embedded into the resin while it was curing. Your resin table may have had the edging removed to show the decorated, see-through sides. But wear and tear can damage the edge. You can cover this up by putting on a frame. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Wooden Backing

    • 1

Apply wood moulding or flexible polymer trim by placing wood glue along the wooden edge of the table. Pound a wood brad into the moulding or trim every 2 inches to 3 inches with the hammer.

    • 2

Bend the trim around the edge for a round table, or attach strips for square tables. Sand around the brad to remove any pieces of wood splintered up during hammering.

    • 3

Cover over the brad with wood filler. Sand the area smooth. Apply paint or a wood stain to finish the frame.

    Without Wooden Backing

    • 4

Cut iron-on edging at least 1 inch longer than the entire edge surface of the table. Align the wood edging on resin tables without a wooden surface underneath.

    • 5

Place the iron on the cotton setting for pre-heating. Lay aluminum foil over the first section of edging. Press the iron against the aluminum foil and edging, heating the adhesive glue backing.

    • 6

Pull at the edge lightly to see if the glue is adhering. Finish ironing the edging on the resin table. Push a wooden block along the warm edging to rid of any bulges and to firmly affix.

    • 7

Cut excess edging from sides with utility knife. Sand the edging. Paint or stain to the desired color.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you apply the iron-on edging wrong, reheat the edging while peeling it up. Reattach edging while glue is still able to adhere.
