How to Crochet a Panel Using a Circular Loom

Flat crocheted panels are the foundation for blankets, place mats, baby bibs, hats and slippers. The use of a round loom speeds up the completion time by half compared to physically crocheting each stitch for the panel. Make a flat crocheted panel in the shape of a square or a rectangle with ease. The length of the panel will determine the completed shape. Practice making a crocheted flat panel on a small 24-peg round loom. Use the same process to make panels on any size round loom.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the round 24-peg loom on a flat work surface. Position the loom so the single peg is on a horizontal plane pointing directly toward you.

    • 2

Tie a slipknot about two inches from the end of the yarn. Slide the slipknot over the first peg to the right of the horizontal tie-off peg.

    • 3

E-wrap each peg, stopping at the peg to the right of the horizontal peg. An e-wrap is completed by wrapping the yarn from the back of the peg, to the front, to the back and on to the next peg. Begin the e-wrap process on the peg to the left of the last stitch. Wrap in a clockwise motion.

    • 4

E-wrap the peg to the right of the horizontal peg a second time. Wrap each peg around in a counter-clockwise motion stopping after the peg with the slipknot is wrapped.

    • 5

Wrap the yarn around the horizontal peg to hold the yarn in place after two rows of loops are on each peg.

    • 6

Insert the crochet hook in the peg groove between the two loops. Continue to insert the end of the crochet hook through the bottom loop. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. Continue the process around the loom.

    • 7

E-wrap each peg in a clockwise motion starting with the peg to the left of the horizontal tie-off peg. Stop at the peg to the right of the horizontal peg. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop.

    • 8

E-wrap each peg in a counter-clockwise motion, starting with the peg to the right of the horizontal tie-off peg. Stop at the peg to the right of the horizontal peg. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop.

    • 9

Repeat Steps 7 and 8 until the crocheted panel is the desired length.

    • 10

E-wrap the peg of the last stitch. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop.

    • 11

Move the completed stitch to the next peg. Pull the bottom loop over the top loop. Repeat the process until one loop remains on a peg.

    • 12

Cut the yarn about three inches from the last stitch. Pull the yarn through the loop. Pull tightly to firm a knot.
