Make a music note bracelet with embroidery thread and a charm.

Make a simple music note bracelet for the music lover in your life using thread and a charm. This craft project is suitable for children and adults. The thread type and color is a personal preference. Hemp thread makes for a more neutral, earth tone bracelet. Embroidery thread is available in a wide array of colors. Crafters may opt to use just one color for the bracelet or use up to three different colors. Use a new music note charm or repurpose a single music note earring, a small pendant or a charm from a broken charm bracelet.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut three pieces of embroidery thread or hemp thread to a length of 10 inches.

    • 2

Align the three pieces of thread and put in two overhand knots, approximately 1 inch in from the end.

    • 3

Run a safety pin through the knot and attach the pin to your pant leg around your knee. Alternatively, attach the pin to a pillow, then tuck the pillow under your leg to hold it in place.

    • 4

Braid the three strands of embroidery thread to a length of approximately 4 inches.

    • 5

Thread the music note charm onto one of the three strands of thread and continue braiding until there's approximately 1 inch of unbraided thread left.

    • 6

Tie two overhand knots at the end of the braid.

    • 7

Remove the safety pin and snip off the extra unbraided thread after the knots on both ends of the bracelet.

    • 8

Tie the bracelet around your wrist and knot it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use melted beeswax to smooth hemp thread. Microwave beeswax in a small bowl. Dip the hemp thread into the wax. Immediately after dipping, grasp the end of the strand with your thumb and pointer finger and run your fingers down the length of the thread to remove excess wax and smooth the thread.

  • For a more finished appearance for the ends of the bracelet, dip the knots into melted beeswax and stick the loose threads onto the wax. Dip the knot a second time to seal in the loose threads.

  • Make a homemade music note charm out of polymer clay. Attach it to a jump ring and use it on your bracelet.
