Caps are not hard to embroider but depending on the type of the cap, embroidery can be done on the front, back and on each side. You can personalize your caps for displaying team spirit, or give them out during a family reunion. There is no shortage of reasons to pick up your embroidery machine and get to work. The following instructions will cover how to embroider a baseball cap.

Instructions

    • 1

Import a favorite embroidery design onto your sewing machine.

    • 2

Insert the stabilizer inside the embroidery hoop.

    • 3

Decide where on the cap you want your design to be embroidered. The center of the embroidery design must be aligned with the middle of the stretched stabilizer. Once aligned, pin it onto the stabilizer fabric.

    • 4

Allow the hoop to pass through the machine by removing your foot from the machine. Once the hoop is set firmly on the machine, place the fabric along with stabilizer fabric on the right side of the machine top. Loosely sew along the outer edges of the design emplacement on the cap; it will secure the cap to the stabilizer fabric. Take the pins out to leave more room to work while doing the embroidering.

    • 5

Stitch your design the cap’s right side. This should also be passed through the stabilizer fabric.

    • 6

Remove your sewing machine foot to obtain the cap and the hoop after your design is fully sewn and finished. Trim the extra threads and remove the initial loose stitches sewn to stabilize the hoop onto the cap. Neaten the cap by trimming and hiding every extra yarn strand.

Take the hoop off and trim any excess stabilizer fabric from around the edges of the design.

Tips & Warnings

  • The designs are usually digitized from the center working outwards to the sides, and from the bottom of the design to the top of the cap. If the embroidery design is highly detailed, it is best to work in segments, starting from the center.

  • If the cap requires an embroidery pattern on its back, it is placed on an arc and sewn in a flat frame.
