How to Make a Newspaper Wreath
Making a handcrafted newspaper wreath is one way to recycle old newspapers that would end up in the trash. By cutting up newspaper pages and attaching them to a wreath base, you'll create a stylish and visually dynamic decorative item. Use the finished wreath to spruce up your space for just about any season or special occasion.
Instructions

1
Open the newspaper and lay it face down on a flat surface.
-
2
Cut along the center fold of the newspaper so that you are left with two piles of paper.
-
-
3
Gather the first pile of paper and cut it along the center, both horizontally and vertically, to create four smaller piles. Repeat this for the second pile of paper. You should now have eight piles of newspaper.
-
4
Cut the eight piles of newspaper both horizontally and vertically into fours. You should now have 32 smaller piles of newspaper squares.
-
5
Gently crinkle each newspaper square with your hands to give them texture. Do this quickly to produce an irregular texture with each piece.
-
6
Place a small amount of hot glue on the front of the foam wreath and attach a piece of crinkled newspaper to it. Once it is in place, press down gently on the newspaper piece to secure it to the wreath. Continue to apply the hot glue and newspaper pieces to the front of the wreath until it is completely covered.
-
7
Flip your wreath over and attach newspaper pieces to the inner portion of the wreath. Do not attach newspaper to the back of the wreath since it won't be visible when on display, and so it lays flat against the surface of a wall or door.
-
8
Apply two coats of acrylic sealer to the finished wreath.

Tips & Warnings
Display your wreath on a wall or door by gently pressing its foam base onto a small nail.
Attach a ribbon to the back of your wreath using hot glue and hang it on a nail for display.
Apply a light coat of colored or metallic spray paint to your finished wreath to give it extra visual interest. Do this before applying the acrylic sealer.
Add glitter to your wreath by dipping a paintbrush in glue, then glitter, and lightly applying it to the edges of the newspaper pieces. Do this before applying the acrylic sealer.
Use book or magazine pages instead of newspaper to create your wreath.
Prior to removing a book's pages, apply a light coat of acrylic paint to the top, right and bottom edges of the book. This will give your pages a thin border when placed on to your wreath.
