How to Sew a Kindle Case
Kindle fans rave about their portability, ease of reading and handy travel size. But they don't come with covers. In less than an hour, though, you can remedy that situation by sewing a custom kindle cover that will stand out in a crowd while protecting your e-book's screen from scratches. These covers are easy enough to assemble that you might make several to give as gifts.
Things You'll Need
- 2 9-by-6-inch pieces of fabric for cover
- 2 7.5-by-6-inch rectangles of crafting felt for lining
- 1 6-by-1.5-inch piece of scrap fabric, for the flap closure
- Scissors
- Pins
- Iron
- 1 button for closure
- Sewing machine or needle and thread

1
Create a bag by sewing your felt pieces together on three sides, 1/4 inch from the edge of the fabric. Start on one of the long sides and end on the opposite long side, so that one of the short, top sides remains open.
-
2
Repeat the process with your two 9-by-6-inch fabric pieces. With their right sides facing each other, sew the two long sides and one short together about 1/4 inch from the fabric edge, and leave a short side open.

3
Fold the smaller piece of fabric over along the length with right sides together so that it measures 3-by-1.5 inches, and press it with an iron. Sew up the long sides, leaving the top open. Turn the outer piece of fabric and flap right side out and push out the flap corners to make a rectangle.
-
4
Fold the unfinished top edge of the outer fabric bag down by 1 inch, then press with an iron. Insert the felt bag so that both open sides are facing upward. Pin the felt bag to the main fabric bag at the top.
-
5
Tuck the flap, unfinished side down, into the center of the pouch’s top seam, between the lining and outer fabric and so that the finished edge overlaps the cover. Mark a spot for your button on the right side of the top fabric.
-
6
Finish your case by top-stitching the lining to the cover top along three sides, about 1/4 inch from the edge. Sew on the button.
