Create something beautiful to put your flowers in.

Flowers are a beautiful gift that can be given on many occasions, from birthdays and anniversaries to holidays like Easter and Mother's Day. This year, instead of giving your flowers in a plain glass vase, go with something homemade. Personalize your gift of flowers with a beautifully crafted ribbon vase. All you need is a vase with a square bottom and some ribbon to match your flowers.

Things You'll Need

  • Plain vase (square shape)
  • Measuring tape

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height of your vase and add 1-1/2 inches to the measurement.

    • 2

Cut 12 strips of the 5/8-inch wide ribbon using the height measurement.

    • 3

Insert a glue stick into your hot glue gun and allow it to heat for five minutes.

    • 4

Glue three ribbons to the bottom of one side of the vase. Fold them over the top of the vase and glue them down. The ribbons will not be glued to the sides, as you will be weaving through them.

    • 5

Repeat this on all four sides with the remaining ribbon strips and allow the glue to cool.

    • 6

Take your 1-1/2 inch ribbon and start weaving through the ribbon at the bottom of the vase. Simply go under one strand and then over the next and then under again, and so forth. When you have gone around the vase once, cut the ribbon and glue it down on top of the end that you started with.

    • 7

Continue to weave, cut and glue the ribbon until you have covered the entire vase.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not cut the 1-1/2 inch ribbon before weaving as it will be difficult to get the right length.

  • If you are left with too thick a piece of ribbon at the top of the vase, carefully cut the width of the ribbon and then weave it.
