Keep track of who gives you gifts at your wedding.

Wedding thank you notes are typically sent a few weeks after the event as a way to acknowledge gifts. Rather than writing the same generic thank you in every note, tailor each one specifically to the recipient and take some extra steps to make the notes special and personalized. These details will show your wedding guests how appreciative you are for their gifts.

Instructions

    • 1

Make your own thank you cards using cardstock rather than store-bought cards. Choose cardstock that is twice the size of the envelope you will use. Score the cardstock in the middle using a bone folder and fold the card in half. Write a note on the inside of the card and use glitter pens or rubber stamps to decorate the front.

Write the thank you notes by hand. While printed thank you notes might be neater, they are less personal. Even if your handwriting is slightly messy, the fact you took the time to sit down and write a note can make a big difference for the recipient.

    • 3

Make the thank you notes extra special by using the person's first name and mentioning the specific gifts or money received. Show you paid attention to the gift by writing, for example: "Dear John, thank you for the toaster oven. It is greatly appreciated and will be used often." Sign your name at the bottom of the note.

    • 4

Add a little something extra to the thank you notes by including your wedding photo. Or you can send a photo of the gift being used, such as bath towels hung up in the bathroom or coasters sitting on your coffee table.

    • 5

Send the notes promptly, preferably two to three weeks following the wedding.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have paper and pen ready when you open your wedding gifts so you can keep track of who sent what.
