Instructions

1. Crochet a chain of five links with your yarn and G hook. Connect the ends using a slip stitch by crocheting into the first link, creating a circle.

2. Make a chain of one by pulling the yarn through your loop on the hook to start your first row. Single crochet twice into the back loops of the circle all the way around. This will get the circle started.

3. Crochet another single chain to go to the next row. Crochet a single crochet stitch twice in the same back loops going all the way around again.

4. Crochet a single chain again and make one single crochet in the next two loops. Crochet a single stitch two times in the next loop. Make a single crochet stitch in the next three loops. Make a single crochet stitch in the same loop twice and then continue this repeating pattern in the back loops until you reach all the way around.

5. Chain one link again to start your next row. Crochet a single crochet stitch in the next four loops. Make two single crochet stitches in the next loop. Then make a single crochet stitch in the next five loops. Crochet a single stitch twice into the next loop. Repeat this pattern all the way around.

6. Make a single chain again. Crochet a single stitch crochet into each loop around. Make a single chain to proceed to the next row. Continue this until your hat is as long as you want it. Try it on your toddler from time to time to see how it fits.

7. Cut off the yarn a few inches from the end of your hook with scissors. Pull it through the loop as if you were going to make a chain. Remove the hook and pull the yarn strand tight to tie off the hat. Weave the strand into the hat's stitches to hide it and finish the hat.
