How to Dye Resin

The more dye used in resins, the deeper the color becomes.

Resin is a common material used for jewelry and other crafts, and the variety of colors and hues found in many examples come from dyes and pigments added during the mixing process. Hobbyists can add their own coloring dyes and pigments into their resin creations to generate eye-catching works of art with little difficulty. The resin's color and the speed of curing depends on the amount of resin used, the amount of dye added, and the temperature of the room, resin and mold.

Things You'll Need

• Polyester resin
• Measuring cup
• Coloring dye
• Hardener
• Mixing stick

Instructions

1. Pour the desired amount of resin into a measuring cup. The amount of resin used affects both the amount of dye needed for coloring and the time needed for curing.

2. Add one to three drops of dye into the resin to create the desired color shade and mix thoroughly with a mixing stick. A single drop or less can create a light pastel shade, while three drops or more can create a dark shade.

3. Add the hardener to the resin in accordance with the instructions on the hardener label. Mix the resin thoroughly and pour the solution into the molds for curing.
