How to Modify a Racket Grip
Tennis is a high-endurance sport played either with partners or one-on-one. A tennis racket is used to strike and serve the ball, and it must fit your hand properly. A quality racket grip is an essential component to playing a successful game. Some racket grip diameters may be too big or too small for your hand. If so, you must modify it to suit you.

1
Hold the racket in your dominant hand. Grip the racket as you normally would while playing the game.
-
2
Place your opposing index finger inside the gap between the fleshy part of your palm and your fingertips. With an ideal gap, you will be able to do this easily. If there is extra space, the grip is too big.

3
Apply one layer of grip tape to the racket -- in line with the racket grip's spiraling -- from the top of the racket grip to the bottom. Keep the tape taut as you wrap to ensure that it adheres properly.

4
Repeat Step 2 to check your grip. If needed, apply another layer of grip tape. Keep repeating Steps 2 and 3 until your grip is a proper fit, and your index finger fits perfectly in between your fingers and the fleshy part of your palm.

Tips & Warnings
Have your racket grip professionally installed to ensure quality performance on the court.
Ensure that you are physically fit prior to engaging in any rigorous sport or exercise.
A grip that is too small in diameter can cause the racket to pivot in your hand. This can eventually lead to a condition known as tennis elbow.
