How to Grow Vinca Vine From a Seed

Vincas (Vinca minor), also known as periwinkle, are vines commonly grown for their attractive foliage and showy blooms. Growers interested in cultivating vinca are faced with the choice of either purchasing pre-germinated young plants for transplanting outside or growing the vincas from seed. Instructions

    • 1

Fill the shallow container with the seed starting mix. Soak the seed-starting mix in water and then allow the container to drain.

    • 2

Place three to four seeds in each cell inside the container. Immediately cover the seeds with at least one-quarter inch of the seed-starting mixture and press the mixture down firmly. Apply more water after the seed-starting mix has been pressed down.

    • 3

Cover the container in black plastic. Vinca seeds require absolute darkness for proper germination. Cover the container’s top with black plastic. If the area where storing the container is less than 77 degrees Fahrenheit, place the container on a heating pad maintaining that temperature. Remove the black plastic cover after the seeds germinate, which usually occurs in one to two weeks.
