DIY Costume Wire Glasses for Kids
Whether your child is dressing up as Harry Potter, a nutty professor or an evil genius, wire glasses will be an essential piece of his costume. Luckily, it's easy to create a realistic costume facsimile of wire glasses that will be safer for children than real ones while still looking polished and in place. You don't even need to buy the frames; you can make them from household items.

1
Fold your first black pipe cleaner into a large loop so that the wire overlaps itself almost all the way around. Twist the cleaner to secure it to itself. Repeat this with the next pipe cleaner. Stretch the shapes out to make sure they're completely circular, and line them up together to see that the size of the circles is the same.

2
Fold the third pipe cleaner in half. Lay the circles on top of it, so that the center of the circle is what's intersecting the double wire. Fold that wire over the circles as many times as it takes to secure the circles together side by side with about a half inch in between them. This wire will act as the nose band.

Loop the fourth pipe cleaner to the outside of one of the circles, directly across from the nose band. Twist it to secure it. Bend it so that the wire is perpendicular to the lenses. Fold the end over on itself about a third of the way down to make the wire shorter for a child's head and thicker so that it rests correctly on the ear. Bend the new loose end down in a "c" formation so that the frames will loop over the ears. Repeat this on the other side with the fifth pipe cleaner.

4
Place the lenses on top of the cellophane and trace the circles' insides on the clear material with a pen. Cut the shapes out, and glue them to the pipe cleaner frames. Add white tape to the nose band if you wish.

Tips & Warnings
You may wish to use oak tag or card stock glasses frames instead. If so, use the pattern from the Making Friends website. Cut that out of the card stock, and tape it together at the nose bridge using the white tape.
