How to Make a Mold for Fimo
Fimo is a brand of polymer clay commonly used in making jewelry and sculpture. It is cured in a regular household oven. To make replicated shapes with polymer clay, it is easier to use a mold. This allows the artist to make several identical shapes while saving time and effort. To create a mold for Fimo, all that is needed is a hard object, such as a charm, cameo or button, and silicone putty mix. It is quick and easy to make Fimo pieces that look just like the original object.

1
Mix equal parts of the two-part silicone putty in your hands until blended. The amount you mix depends on the object's size. Mix enough putty to surround the object with about a 1/4- to 1/2-inch edge. A 1-inch-diameter object, for example, would need about a 1-inch ball of each part of the two-part silicone putty.

2
Roll the putty into a ball and lay it on the work surface. Work quickly before the putty sets.
-
-
3
Press the object, right side down, into the putty until the putty meets the bottom edge of the object.
-
4
Let the putty set with the object in it for 10 minutes or until solid with a smooth, rubbery texture. Time may vary depending on the mold size.
-
5
Pull the object from the mold. Store the mold in an airtight container or bag to prevent it from drying out.

Tips & Warnings
Some two-part silicone putty molds are oven-safe. Check the container label for details. This allows the Fimo to be baked, or cured, while still in the mold, if desired.
Flat-back objects work best in making molds for Fimo.
