Aluminum roofing can be installed on all different types of houses.

Aluminum sub-panels are used in roofing applications. Aluminum paneled roofing is often found on barns and houses in rural areas. These aluminum panels are an alternative to the more commonly used shingle roofs. They interlock and overlap each other slightly to produce a tight seal on the roof. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the roof and multiply to get the total square footage. This will determine how many aluminum sub-panels you will need.

    • 2

Inspect the plywood or other type of sheathing that is already installed on the roof and verify it is secure in place. Hammer down any nails that are sticking up and add more nails to further secure the roof in place, if necessary.

    • 3

Roll out roofing felt directly on top of the plywood beginning at any corner of the roof. Staple it in place every 8 inches along the entire piece. Cut it off at the end of the roof with a utility knife and overlap the rows by four inches. Continue until the entire roof is covered in roofing felt.

    • 4

Lay out the first aluminum sub-panel vertically beginning at the bottom of the roof so it is hanging over by 1/2 inch. Secure it in place with sheet-metal screws and a power drill. Insert a screw every 12 inches in the grooves of the sub-panels. Overlap the second sub-panel over the first by one groove and install it the same way.

    • 5

Move down the entire base of the roof until the first row is complete. Install the second row above the first so it is hanging over by 4 inches and continue in the same manner all the way up the roof until it is covered in aluminum sub-panels.
