Walls become dirty and stained with a number of things. If you spilled red wine on your walls, for example, you should clean it up immediately before the stain sets. If your wall paint has an eggshell or glossy finish, you'll find it is easier to clean than walls painted with flat paint. Fortunately, you can usually remove red wine off walls using methods known to remove red wine stains -- but first test the cleaning method used in a discreet area to verify it won't damage the wall paint or finish. Instructions

      Blot as much of the red wine off the wall as possible using a clean rag moistened with cold water. Rub the wall gently in circular motions, too.

      Mix a pint of cold water and 1 tbsp. of dishwashing detergent in a bowl. Moisten a sponge or rag in the soapy water and blot and rub the rest of the red wine off the wall.

      Rinse the sponge or rag often in the soapy water and continue to clean the wall until the red wine disappears. Rinse the wall with a clean moist sponge or rag. If the red wine won't come off completely, proceed to the next step.

      Moisten a sponge or rag with white vinegar and blot and rub in circular motions to remove the rest of the red wine.
