How to Crochet an Elastic Band for Making a Bracelet
Creating and wearing custom textile jewelry is an interesting way to show off your handiwork and personal style. A stretchy crocheted bracelet is a simple project, well-suited to novice crocheters. This inexpensive project requires knowledge of only three basic stitches: the chain stitch, single crochet stitch and slip stitch. The bracelet begins as a joined crocheted chain that stretches to fit over the wearer's hand, like a bangle. Rows of single crochet stitches are added to make the bracelet as wide as you like.

1
Crochet a foundation chain about 6 inches long for a lady's snug-fitting bracelet. Be careful to not stretch the elastic yarn as you crochet. The length of the foundation chain is equal to the circumference of the finished bracelet. For a man's bracelet or a looser fitting lady's bracelet, crochet the chain 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches long. Slip stitch the ends together to form a loop.

2
Chain one. Single crochet one stitch in each chain stitch. When you get to the starting point, slip stitch in the beginning chain stitch to join.

3
Chain one between each row of single crochet stitches. Continue crocheting single crochet rows until your bracelet reaches the desired width. Join the beginning and ending stitches of each row by slip stitching into the beginning chain. When you have finished the final row, tie off the last stitch and weave in the loose threads.

Tips & Warnings
Beads or charms may be incorporated into the bracelet by stringing them onto the yarn before you begin crocheting. As you approach the place where you want to position the bead or charm, slit it up to the crochet hook and capture it in the next stitch.
