Create dream pillows to achieve a restful sleep.

Drift into the world of slumber as you inhale the fragrant scents of dream pillows. People create and use dream pillows -- fabric squares or rectangles stuffed with aromatic herbs -- for a variety of purposes. According to “The Hidden Power of Dreams” by Denise Linn, you can use the pillows to help you remember your dreams as well as receive prophetic dreams. Make a dream pillow for yourself or for a friend to accompany and enhance your sleep.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 6-by-6-inch squares of cotton, silk or velvet using a ruler and scissors.

    • 2

Place the two squares together with their wrong sides facing out.

    • 3

Pin the squares together around their perimeter using straight pins.

    • 4

Sew the squares together with a sewing machine with a running stitch about 1/4 inch from the edge of the fabric. Sew three of the open sides of the pillow together, leaving one side open. As you sew, remove the pins.

    • 5

Gather 1 to 2 tablespoons of the following herbs: lavender, rosemary and mugwort.

    • 6

Grind each of the herbs with a mortar and pestle.

    • 7

Turn the dream pillow inside out to hide the stitches.

    • 8

Add each crushed herb into the opening of your pillow. Keep the pillow flat and loose.

    • 9

Sew the open side of your dream pillow closed.

    • 10

Cut, using scissors, any excess threads hanging from your dream pillow.

    • 11

Squeeze and pinch your pillow to release the aroma of the herbs.

    • 12

Place your dream pillow under your regular pillow before sleep.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some people add a drop or two of essential oils, such as peppermint, rose or eucalyptus oil, to their herbs before they place them in their dream pillows to enhance the scent of the herbs.

  • Rather than stuffing your pillow solely with herbs, fill your pillow with cotton batting and add herbs to the center of the batting.
