Hemp can be used to make almost any needle craft project.

Hemp is a natural product of the cannabis plant that can be used as a fiber product. Hemp fiber comes in varying weights and in varying levels of fineness. The type of hemp you use for making a scarf depends on your preference. The finely woven hemp has a texture similar to linen and is softer and less itchy than wool. Working with the fine grade hemp is similar to working with any other yarn.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your hemp and cast on 26 stitches.

    • 2

Knit the first row by inserting your needle into the first stitch, pulling a loop of yarn over the tip of the needle, and pulling the needle and the yarn loop through the first stitch.

    • 3

Continue this process until you complete the row.

    • 4

Repeat the process until your scarf is as long as you want.

    • 5

Bind and finish off the end of the yarn.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you're using the right size needles for your hemp yarn. Normally, hemp yarn is fingering weight, and your needle size should be 0-3. Always double-check the yarn package to confirm the correct size needles.
