How to Make a Wreath With a Magazine

Wreaths are festive and colorful representations of Christmas and the winter season. While the classic holly wreath is the most traditional style, many Christmas lovers enjoy displaying homemade wreathes to give the holiday a touch of personal flare. With the emergence of the environmentalist movement, recycled or "green" wreaths, to excuse the pun, are a great way to show support for ecological concerns while celebrating Christmas. Instructions

Determine the style of the wreath. The wreath could consist of paper tubes radiating outward from the center, paper tubes woven around the wreath frame, strips of paper protruding from the wreath frame or anything else imaginable. Experiment with different layouts and pick a design that suits you best.

Select a magazine page with colorful pictures. The content of the magazines is not very important, as it will usually be difficult to recognize the articles once the wreath is complete. Cut out the page and trim any ragged edges. Repeat this process for many pages. For a 12-inch wreath, you will need as many as 50 to 300 pages, depending on design.

    • 3

Modify the pages to create the leaves of the wreath. For example, if you want to make a wreath out of paper tubes, then use a pencil to roll one corner of the magazine to its opposite corner, and glue the inside page of the far corner. If you want to create a wreath composed of feathery leaf patterns, cut the magazine pages into leaf shapes.

Arrange the magazine parts in a circular pattern on the wreath frame. Glue the back of the magazine paper leaves to the wreath frame.

Add finishing touches, such as ribbons or flowers. As with the wreath itself, there are countless ways to create ribbons and flowers out of magazines. The easiest way would be to cut the magazine page into the appropriate shape and glue it onto the wreath. A more eye-catching technique would be to literally fold the ends of a strip of magazine inward so that it creates a bow shape and glue it together to preserve the shape. Try making flowers by gluing increasingly smaller crumpled circles of magazine on top of each other. Experiment with different methods to find a style that suits you best.
