How to Make Earrings With Flat Posts

Flat post earrings are ideal to wear for sports that allow them.

Making your own earrings is quick and inexpensive. For a fraction of the cost of store-bought earrings, you can custom design your own trendy studs, personalized to suit your taste. Many objects that you may already have lying around the house can be utilized to make a pair of flat post earrings. Earring post backs can be purchased from most craft supply stores; buy a package of multiple posts and make several pairs of earrings to mix and match.

Things You'll Need

• Earring posts
• Glue gun
• Buttons
• Polymer clay
• Cookie sheet
• Oven
• Craft wire
• Beads

Instructions

Button Earrings

1. Select two flat-backed buttons. These can be matching or different buttons

2. Place a small dab of hot glue on each earring post.

3. Attach a button to each post. Let the glue dry for several minutes before wearing your new button post earrings.

Clay Flower Earrings

1. Roll a small section of clay into a spherical ball. This will be the center of your flower.

2. Make five smaller clay balls for the flower petals. Attach each petal to the circle from Step 1, creating your flower. Press a post into the back of the flower.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the second earring.

4. Preheat an oven to 325 degrees. Place both earrings on a cookie sheet. Place the earrings in the oven for 30 minutes. Remove and let cool for 10 minutes before handling.

Wire-Wrapped Bead Earrings

1. Cut two 4-inch-long pieces of craft wire.

2. Place a dab of hot glue on each earring post. Attach one end of the wire to the earring post, then twist it around in a spiral.

3. Place another dab of glue in the center of each post, and attach a bead in the middle of the spiraled wire.
