How to Make a Poultry Range Feeder

How to Make a Poultry Range Feeder thumbnail
Place your poultry feeder inside a shelter to avoid getting the feed wet.

Whether you're a farmer with a flock of 100 chickens or a pet owner with just a couple of them, you'll need to devise a feeding system. You can simply fill a trough with chicken feed whenever it's feeding time, but constantly refilling the trough can become unnecessarily labor intensive. An automatic poultry range feeder limits your workload and ensures your chickens get fed properly.

Things You'll Need

  • 6-inch diameter PVC pipe, 3 feet long
  • Knife
  • Plastic 10-inch diameter flower pot base with 3 inch high sides
  • 6-inch wood screws
  • Power drill
  • Chicken feed

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four equally spaced 2-inch diameter holes around one end of the PVC pipe. The holes should be 1 inch from the end of the pipe.

    • 2

Place the flower pot base where you're going to feed the chickens.

    • 3

Set the PVC pipe in the middle of the flower pot base with the holes closest to the base.

    • 4

Drill four equally spaced 6-inch wood screws through the sides of the flower pot base and into the bottom of the PVC pipe. These screws will prevent the feeder from tipping over.

    • 5

Pour chicken feed into the top of the PVC pipe until the feed escapes through the holes in the bottom of the pipe and reaches a height of 3 inches in the flower pot base.
