How to Get the Sledgehammer in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" for GameCube
The Megaton Hammer is a sledgehammer-like item in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time." This particular item is also a fairly powerful weapon -- and is also the only weapon that can damage the boss monster in the Fire Temple dungeon. The Megaton Hammer can be found in that self-same dungeon, about halfway through the temple.

Play through the Fire Temple until you come to the room at the very top of the temple.

Climb up the wall near the entrance door and step on the switch. This will cause the pillar of flames surrounding the chest on the other side of the room to disappear. You will have a limited amount of time to get to the chest before the flames reappear.

Jump onto the narrow staircase in the middle of the large ring that appears in the room.

Run up the staircase until you are near the chest, then use the hookshot to pull yourself onto the ledge.

Open the chest to receive the Megaton Hammer.
