How to Crochet a Cat's Nest
Cats are notorious for curling up in boxes, bags, baskets or anything else that is private and warm. Give your feline friend a crocheted cat nest for those cold winter days. If you are familiar with basic crochet stitches, this project will be a snap. This cat nest finishes at about 18 inches in diameter.

The Tube
-
1
Hold the ends of all three yarn colors together. Tie a slip knot with all colors. You will be crocheting with all three colors at the same time.
-
2
Make twenty-five chain stitches, then make a slip stitch with the first stitch to form a loop. Chain three and single crochet in the same stitch. Make a double crochet stitch in each stitch around. Join the last double crochet to the first chain stitch with a slip stitch.

-
3
Repeat Step 2 for the next fifty-four rounds. Count each stitch to be sure you did not increase or decrease.
-
4
Fold the crocheted tube exactly in half. Crochet both sides together using slip stitches along the edge. Leave a small opening in the tube. Cast the stitches off, then weave in the ends.
-
5
Lightly stuff the tube with fiber fill stuffing. Sew the opening closed with a tapestry needle and yarn. Weave in the ends.
The Base
-
6
Crocheting with all three colors, make a slip knot. Make a six-chain loop, then make two single crochets in each stitch. The loop should have twelve single crochet stitches.
-
7
Chain one and then single crochet in same stitch. Make two single crochets in the next stitch. Make one single crochet int he next stitch. Repeat all the way around.
-
8
Chain one then single crochet in the same stitch. Make a single crochet in the next two stitches. Make two single crochets in the next stitch. Repeat all the way around.
-
9
Repeat this process of gradually increasing the spaces between the increases. This will form a circle. Stop increasing when the circle measures about 18 inches in diameter.
-
10
Using two strands of yarn and a yarn needle, sew the base of the cat nest to the bottom of the tube. Place the nest in an area your cat enjoys sleeping.
