How to Make Paper Berets
Berets are soft circular hats you wear on the side of the head, and are associated with the images of artists, poets and military personnel. Whether you are designing a craft project for children or adults, you can make a beret out of paper. A paper beret is not durable like a real beret, but it provides an idea of what the hat looks like and how it is worn so you can compare it to other hat styles and identify it.

1
Paint a white paper plate and white construction paper the color you want the beret to be. Use tempera paint and a paintbrush, and allow the paint to dry for one hour before continuing.

2
Lay two pieces of construction paper, with the longest horizontal side, on the working surface. Staple the two pieces of construction paper together. Cut the width of the paper so you have a 2-inch wide band. Wrap the elongated band around the the wearer's forehead and the back of the head, bringing the ends together. Trim the excess paper with scissors where the two ends barely overlap. Staple the two loose ends together to form a circle.

3
Place the construction paper band on the work surface. Fit the paper plate over the band by folding the paper plate into a dome shape until the rim of the paper plate is touching the upper rim of the band.

4
Cut a strip of double-sided tape. Place the tape between the paper plate and the construction paper band to hold them together. Use a hot glue gun if double-sided tape is not strong enough. You will have a dome hat that resembles a beret.
