How to Make Long Stemmed Paper Flowers
Paper flowers are best made with tissue paper because the paper is thin enough that it can be easily manipulated to look however you want. Technically, the flowers are made through a folding technique. Creating paper flowers with long stems allows you to use the flowers as centerpieces or in bouquets. Most craft supply stores sell artificial flower stems, making it a simple process to attach the paper flower to the stem once you’ve created the flower. You can mix and match different colors of paper to create a variety of flowers
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay the sheets of tissue paper on top of each other so they are lined up evenly. You can organize the colors of the paper in any order you prefer.
-
2
Fold ¾ of an inch of the tissue papers inwards.
-
-
3
Flip the papers over and fold ¾ of an inch in again.
-
4
Repeat Steps 2 and 3, flipping the papers over after each fold until the papers are fully folded. The tissue paper should be in an accordion shape.
-
5
Loop the flower stem over the middle of the folded paper and twist the two ends of the stem together. This both attaches the stem to the flower and gives you a point to work from with the tissue paper.
-
6
Trim the papers’ ends so the edges are rounded, like flower petals. Spread the paper open on either side of the wire stem.
-
7
Pull the top layer of one side of the tissue paper up carefully towards the center stem. You may need to alternate lifting the paper at several points to keep from tearing the paper.
-
8
Repeat Step 7 until all of the tissue paper has been separated from each other on both sides. As the paper is separated, it fans out, giving it the look of flower petals.
