How to Dress Well for School

How to Dress Well for School thumbnail
Looking sharp never goes out of style, especially in school.

Dressing smartly for school shows teachers that you take school seriously before you even pick up a pencil. What you wear displays much about your personality and because first impressions are important, taking the extra time to look good before school will pay off. It's not just teachers that will notice how good you look: members of the opposite sex will also judge you based upon your appearance.

Instructions

Don't do all of your back-to-school shopping at once. Long shopping sessions will frustrate you as you try to keep track of everything that you want while purchasing everything that you need. Do your shopping in increments. Buy a few outfits before school starts and take some time to purchase other new clothes gradually. This will allow you time to make wise purchases instead of impulsive ones.

Shower daily and wear clean clothes. Personal hygiene is essential as it won't matter how good you look if you smell badly. Constantly emitting a pungent odor will put off your teachers and fellow students. Shave daily if you grow facial hair and remember to keep those fingernails trimmed.

Keep up with current fashion trends and purchase moderately priced attire. Males should wear collared shirts and slacks or jeans. Jeans are extremely versatile articles of clothing -- they can be worn with almost anything -- and are popular with middle and high school students. Females will want to wear sundresses, a girl's henley or a tank top and slacks. Girls should remember to wear a cardigan or some other thin coat to cover their shoulders if their school's dress code calls for covered shoulders. Jeans and a cute top never go out of style, either.

Wear closed-toed shoes. Many school dress codes ban sandals and flip-flops. Sports shoes, loafers or dress shoes work well for males while females should wear sturdy and sleek flats or pumps. Girls sports shoes can be worn as well, but should be paired with sweats or jeans and a t-shirt.

Avoid fancy dress like suits unless academically appropriate. Dressing to a very high degree, while impressive, distracts yourself and others from doing the one thing that you went to school for that day: learning.
