DIY: Pencil Cups

Many young kids love arts and crafts. Indulge their enjoyment while helping your child to create a useful desktop tool. Making a pencil holder at home can make use of your child's artistic talent, while teaching him to recycle things that he would ordinarily consider household trash. Perhaps the new pencil holder can even double as a birthday gift or a Father's Day gift. When making a homemade pencil holder, your creativity is your only limit.

Instructions

    • 1

Use your ruler to mark 1-inch wide rectangles, along the entire lengths of your toilet paper roll.

    • 2

Cut the rectangle out of each toilet paper roll, so that each is now incomplete. Discard the rectangles afterwards.

    • 3

Place all four of the toilet paper rolls on top of the cardboard circle, with the cutout rectangles to the inside. The rolls will form the shape of a four-leaf clover. With a pencil, draw a circle around the clover. This circle will serve as the base of the pencil holder; therefore, it can be as big or small as you want, as long as it is big enough to accommodate the clover.

    • 4

Cut the circle out of the cardboard sheet.

    • 5

Glue the toilet paper rolls, in the shape of a clover, to the cardboard circle.

    • 6

Glue the edges of the toilet paper rolls to each other, to cement the holder in place. Allow the rolls a few hours to dry.

    • 7

Decorate the outside of the pencil holder with paint. Allow your child to be as creative as he desires.
