Hockey enthusiasts love getting their hands on all types of memorabilia and accessories, bringing the sport with them wherever they go. One way to do this is by crafting hockey puck keychains, using an official puck from their favorite team. These keychains are used in memorabilia showcases, as promotional giveaways at an event, or for everyday use. Alternately, making a keychain using a puck from a special game is a constant reminder of the memories of the event. Although these are offered at many craft and party stores, you can make your own inexpensively.

Things You'll Need

  • Drill
  • One millimeter drill bit
  • Closed threaded hook
  • Screwdriver
  • Dogtag chain
  • Wire snips
  • Keychain spring ring

Instructions

      Drill a small hole along one side of the puck. Drill through at low speed to avoid melting the rubber.

      Insert the screwdriver's shaft into the hook for leverage. Rotate the closed threaded hook into the drilled hole.

      Snip the dogtag chain to the desired length, using the wire snips. Slide the dogtag chain through the hook screwed into the side of the puck. Ensure that the threaded portion of the hook be at least two inches long so it seats firmly into the rubber.

      Loop the keychain spring ring over the chain. Snap the ball end of the chain into the retaining clasp at the other end.

Tips & Warnings

  • Conventional vulcanized rubber hockey pucks are about 6 ounces. However, you can also use a "stress puck," which a softer imitation hockey puck weighing less than an ounce.
