How to Make a Wedding Boutonniere for Groomsmen
Wedding boutonnieres are small, flower clusters pinned on the upper, left jacket lapel worn by the groom and each groomsman. Usually the groom's boutonniere is made from the primary flower used in the bride's bouquet. Boutonnieres for the groomsmen may use the same flower or a secondary flower from the bouquet. Choose fresh, well-hydrated flowers and the boutonnieres will look lush and healthy through both wedding and reception.

1
Choose a healthy, fresh and well-hydrated flower for the central, focus flower in the boutonniere. Cut the stem 1 inch from the flower using floral clippers to avoid crushing the inner tissue of the stem and remove all lower leaves and any less-than-perfect outer petals.
-
2
Cut a 4-inch length of floral wire with wire cutters and thread it through the upper stem just below the bloom. Bend it in half and wrap the length of the wire with floral tape.

3
Arrange filler flowers, such as baby's breath, and any other items for the boutonniere's background, such as leaves or ribbon, and tape them to a new piece of floral wire using the same approach as was used with the focus flower.
-
4
Fit together the focus flower and the background grouping and tape the two pieces of taped wire stems together.
-
5
Mist with water and refrigerate until pinning them with a single boutonniere pin.

Tips & Warnings
Stretch the floral tape while wrapping it around the wire stems, as floral tape only sticks when stretched. Hydrate the boutonnieres by misting them with a plant mister prior to use as flowers absorb water through their petals. Make all the boutonnieres within 24 hours of use to ensure the freshest appearance.
