Create a blackboard wall for the background of the Pac-Man scene.

The game Pac-Man, originally known as “Puckman” because of the main character’s puck-shaped body, first debuted in 1980. The game quickly became one of the most popular video games ever made. Other characters in the game include the red monster “Inky,” “Blinky” the blue monster, “Pinky” the pink monster and “Pokey” the orange monster. Later, Mrs. Pac-Man joined Pac-man as heroine in the games. You can include all the characters in your Pac-Man wall decoration, or just use Pac-Man. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the section of the wall black where you will display the Pac-Man scene. Use black interior paint or chalkboard paint if you want to be able to draw on the wall with chalk. Allow the paint to dry completely.

    • 2

Sketch a Pac-Man maze on the wall using a ruler and pencil. Make pathways that are 6 inches wide; the hook-and-loop fastener will take up 1 inch on the top and bottom of the path, and Pac-Man and the monsters will be 6 inches tall to fill the space and adhere to the fastener. If you want a smaller scene, adjust your measurements accordingly.

    • 3

Cover the pencil lines with hook-and-loop fastener, peeling the backing off first. Press it firmly against the wall so it adheres tightly. Add squares of fastener in the middle of the lines for Pac-Man to “gobble” up.

    • 4

Trace the shapes of Pac-Man and the three monsters, all 6 inches tall, with a pencil on the tag board. Cut out the shapes with a razor knife.

    • 5

Paint Pac-Man and the three monsters. When they dry, apply small squares of hook-and-loop fastener to the backs of the characters at the very top and very bottom so they will adhere to the hook-and-loop pathways.

    • 6

Attach Pac-Man and the monsters to the pathways. Remove and reattach as you play with a partner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use electrical tape or blue paint to create the pathways if you don’t want moveable components. Then, simply paint Pac-Man and the monsters to the wall.
