Resetting the LG Ice Maker

When an ice maker freezes up and refuses to produce glistening cubes of frozen water, it can be a nuisance. It can also mean you need to check a few of the refrigerator's systems and find the issue. The problem can be as simple as adjusting the ice maker to fit snugly in its nook to smoothing out a kink in a water line. After finding and fixing the problem with the machine, the LG ice maker reset will more than likely need to be completed.

Common problems that result in the LG ice maker not working include kinks in the water line, a water filter that is incorrectly placed in the cavity or a dirty water filter that needs to be replaced entirely. Check the system before proceeding. If the LG ice maker tray is not turning, then it may need a simple reset to get it going.

When the LG refrigerator is not making enough ice, check the water lines for kinks, according to Home Tips. Make sure they are free from any obstructions inside or outside the tubes. Check the connection of the water line to the ice maker and make sure the water supply is turned on. If the LG refrigerator ice maker is not filling with water, then this is more than likely the issue.

Opening and closing the doors of the refrigerator roughly can shift the ice maker enough so that it ceases creating cubes. If the ice maker has recently been turned on, it can take 24 hours for the appliance to produce ice.

Before Resetting the Ice Maker

Clean out any frozen cubes that have collected on the machine or have fallen and lodged around its exterior. Working with an ice maker can create puddles from ice chips that get shaken loose. Have some towels handy to help keep the floor from getting slippery and avoid creating a hazard.

Once everything is checked and seems to be in good working order, reset the LG ice maker. There are a few different types of LG ice makers so refer to the manual to make the process easier.

LG Ice Maker Reset

Locate the ice maker's on/off switch on the left side of the unit. The refrigerator's display will have an ice on/ice off icon. On the underside of the front of the tray is a test/fill button. Press and hold that until the ice maker begins to turn and run through a cycle.

If the ice maker didn't cycle, then you will need to remove the bin. LG recommends that the ice maker get a firm but gentle shake a few times before replacing the bin and powering the unit off for 30 seconds. Turn the unit back on.

Allow about four to six hours to for the ice maker begin producing ice. If it fails to come back on or produce ice, then it may need to be repaired or replaced. Replacing the ice maker is a fairly simple process if you are comfortable working with electrical systems.
