How to Make a Tree Branch Jewelry Holder
As seasons pass and styles change, any girl’s jewelry collection is likely to grow steadily. Accommodating this increasing number of accessories is often a challenge, especially as knots and breaks occur from using haphazard storage methods, and finding a single item among the clutter can be frustrating. Pull your tangled pieces out of their storage boxes or bins and display them neatly and clearly on a homemade decorative holder. Whether you prefer an earthy style or bold, modern decor, this project can fit in seamlessly with your decorating scheme and allow you to store your jewelry without worry.
Things You'll Need
- Manzanita tree branch, 12 to 20 inches long
- Saw
- Sandpaper
- Newspaper
- Spray paint (optional)
- Clear acrylic spray
- Wooden block
- Pencil
- Drill
- Electric screwdriver
- Extra-long screw
Instructions
-
-
1
Saw an inch off the bottom end of the branch to create a flat bottom.
-
2
Use sandpaper to smooth the whole surface of the branch. Be gentle when sanding so as not to break off any twigs.
-

3
Spread newspapers to cover your work area and lay the branch on top of them. Spray the upward-facing side of the branch with a coat of spray paint in the color of your choice. Let it dry completely; then turn the branch over and spray the other side. Cover the entire surface of the branch and then let it dry. Skip this step if you prefer a natural look for your jewelry holder.
-
4
Coat the upward-facing side of the painted branch with clear acrylic spray to smooth and seal the surface of the branch. Repeat on the opposite side once it is dry.
-
5
Choose a wooden block at least 3 inches thick to give proper weight to the bottom of the jewelry holder. Paint your wooden block to match your branch. Cover the whole surface; then let it dry. Coat the branch with clear acrylic spray.
-
6
Position the branch above the wooden block at the point in the center where it will attach. Mark the position with a pencil, and set the branch aside. Drill a small hole through the wooden block at the mark.
-
7
Reposition the branch on top of the hole in the block. Use an electric screwdriver to feed a long screw through the hole in the base and directly into the bottom of the branch. Use a screw that is at least 1 1/2 inches longer than the thickness of your base.

Tips & Warnings
Real and artificial tree branches are available to purchase at many major craft stores as well as online. Choose a branch approximately 5 inches wide with many small twigs for hanging jewelry.
Select a wooden base at least an inch wider than your branch in both directions for maximum stability.
Use additional screws to stabilize a branch with a particularly wide base.
