How to Measure a Room for a Couch
One of the simplest parts of home decoration is measuring the necessary space for a couch. You may purchase the most luxurious couch in all of existence, but it will be for naught if you don't have enough room in your living room for the piece of furniture. Before purchasing a couch -- or any furniture -- take some basic measurements to ensure it will fit properly. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the couch's width from widest point -- usually an outer point of the armrest -- to widest point instead of from corner to corner. Write the measurement on paper.
-
2
Measure the couch's depth from the foremost point to the back of the couch. The foremost point may be on the armrest or the foot of the couch. Note the measurement on the paper.
-
-
3
Open the couch's recliner if it has a recliner, and measure the distance front to back so you know how far the footrest extends. Write that amount on the paper.
-
4
Transfer the measurements you wrote down onto the floor of the room in which you plan to place the couch. Do not place the measuring tape flush against a wall; instead, allow for a few inches of space between the wall and couch.
