How to Knit Puff Scarves
The puff stitch is an allover texture pattern that creates little knit puff balls over the surface of the scarf. The puffs alternate, appearing diagonally over the surface of the scarf. A 12-row repeat, with each puff consisting of six rows, is simple to work. Pay attention to each row and use a Post-it note to keep track of your place on the pattern.

Cast on a multiple of six stitches plus two edge stitches.

On row one, purl two stitches. Knit one then purl one stitch twice in the next stitch, purl two stitches, knit one stitch then purl two stitches and repeat to the end of the row.

On row two, knit two edge stitches. Purl one stitch then knit two stitches. Knit one stitch then pass the yarn over the needle and repeat two more times then knit three stitches. Repeat all but the edge stitches to the end of the row.

On row three, purl two edge stitches. Knit one stitch then drop the yarn over stitch off the needle and repeat two more times. Knit one stitch. Purl two stitches, knit one stitch then purl two stitches. Repeat all but the edge stitches to the end of the row.

On row four, repeat row two. On row five, repeat row three.

On row six, knit two edge stitches. Purl one stitch, knit two stitches then purl four stitches together, completing a puff. Knit two stitches. Repeat all but the edge stitches to the end of the row.

Repeat rows 1 through 12 until the scarf is the desired length. Bind off all stitches. Cut the yarn and weave in the end on the wrong side of the scarf.
