Instructions

    • 1

Hold the crochet hook in your right hand and loop the yarn over your left index finger, creating a knot. Hold the end of the knot between your left thumb and middle finger. Use your left index finger to wrap the yarn – back to front – around the hook. Pull the yarn through the loop using the hook. You’ve now made a single chain.

    • 2

Chain 70 stitches together and join the chain together at the ends to form a circular loop. The loop should fit snugly over your teapot.

    • 3

Insert the hook into one chain stitch. Wrap the yarn from the skein over the hook and pull it through with the hook. You will now have two loops on your hook.

    • 4

Draw the yarn through both loops on your hook. You’ve now completed one single crochet.

    • 5

Single crochet in each stitch until you reach the end of the chain loop, making a tube.

    • 6

Chain one and then repeat the single crochet stitch, decreasing five stitches at the end each time around. Decrease stitches by making a loop in the stitch five times, so you have five loops on your hook. Pull your yarn through all five loops to decrease.

    • 7

Chain one and single crochet in every stitch.

    • 8

Repeat steps 6 and 7 until only five stitches are left.

    • 9

Decrease two stitches at the end of the row by making a loop twice and pulling the yarn through both loops.

    • 10

Chain one and single crochet in every stitch.

    • 11

      Decrease two stitches.

    • 12

Tie off the loose ends and weave them into your cozy.

Tips & Warnings

  • This is a standard teapot pattern. Check the circumference of your tea cozy by fitting it over your teapot during step 1. If it's too big or too small, increase or decrease the chain stitches in increments of 5.

  • When putting your finished cozy on a teapot, be sure to do so before you've poured boiling water into the pot. The snug fit of a tea cozy can be hard to maneuver, and you could burn your hands on the hot pot.
