How to Make Beer Bottle Goblet Drinking Glasses

Take recycling to the next level and make a beer bottle goblet from your favorite empty brew bottle. The neck of the bottle is the stem, so the more ornate it is, the more interesting the goblet. The same process will cut and remove a portion of any size or color of beer bottle. Have fun while creating these unique and unusual goblets. The cutting process is the least time consuming. Sanding and polishing the edges will take the most time and patience.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a metal pan, such as a bread pan, in the sink. Pour approximately 1/2-inch of vegetable oil in a clean beer bottle. Position and place the beer bottle in the center of the metal pan.

    • 2

Place the head of the nail at the very end of the jaws on a long handled vise grips.

    • 3

Hold the nail in a gas stove flame or a bottle propane torch until the nail is glowing red hot. This will take up to three minutes.

    • 4

Immediately drop the red hot nail in the beer bottle. The nail will heat the oil and break the glass along the top of the oil. Add more oil to the bottle to break it in a different location. Note: Use a larger nail or bolt when using more oil.

    • 5

Remove the cut glass from the metal pan. Wash and dry the bottle.

    • 6

Sand and polish the cut edges of the beer bottle with 320 grit wet sandpaper, and repeat with 400 grit. This is a very time consuming process. Round the edges to allow for easy drinking and to eliminate the possibility of cuts.

    • 7

Flip the flat bottom of the cut beer bottle over so the cut edge is on the bottom.

    • 8

Dip the top lip of the beer bottle in a mixture of epoxy glue for glass.

    • 9

Turn the bottle so the neck is on the bottom. Center the lip with the epoxy glue in the center of the flat base. Hold in place to dry for 60 seconds.
