You can obtain details about your home loan.

If you recently refinanced to remove a co-borrower from your mortgage loan, you can review several documents to determine if the transaction was successful. However, removing the co-borrower’s liability from your home loan often requires a refinance transaction that you must qualify for on your own. If you have already completed the refinance transaction, your lender can answer questions about your loan and whether a co-borrower is still reflected on your mortgage loan.

Instructions

    • 1

Review your mortgage forms to see if anyone else is listed on documents, such as your monthly mortgage statement or mortgage note. Check each document for the co-borrower’s name. If the co-borrower’s name is found on these documents, she may be jointly responsible for the mortgage balance and the mortgage payments.

Contact your loan servicer to obtain details about the mortgage loan. Provide the customer service representative with necessary information such as your mortgage loan number, Social Security number, home phone number and the property address. Ask your loan servicer if you are solely responsible for the mortgage or if a co-borrower is shown on the loan.

Go to your local courthouse to view real estate property records. Allow approximately 60 days beyond your closing to review recorded mortgage documents. Use your street address, city and zip code to find details about your property. Check real estate land records for documents that pertain to your home, such as the title, mortgage note or financing agreement, to see if a co-borrower is shown.

Tips & Warnings

  • Request a letter from your lender that verifies your sole responsibility for the mortgage loan. Give the former co-borrower a copy of the letter to confirm her removal from your mortgage loan.
