How to Make a Cowboy Blanket for a Little Boy
A cowboy theme provides classic decor for a little boy’s bedroom. Wild west wall art, buffalo lamp shades and a toy rocking horse can fill a boy with wonder and amusement. Complete the look with a handmade cowboy blanket. Making the blanket yourself saves you money and lets you select a pattern that you know the boy you’re making the blanket for will love. Use jersey knit fabric to create a soft, adorable blanket that’s as easy to make as it is to fall in love with.

1
Make a 43-by-43-inch cowboy blanket from 1-1/4-yards of cowboy pattern and red bandana pattern knit fabrics. Wash, dry and iron fabrics.
-
2
Cut the fabrics so that each measures 43-by-43-inches square.
-
-
3
Lay the red bandana pattern flannel fabric face-up on a flat surface. Set the cowboy-patterned knit fabric pattern-side down on top of the flannel fabric. Lift the knit fabric up and lay down a piece of temporary fusible interfacing, right-side down on top of the flannel fabric around all edges of the flannel. Leave a three-inch space free of interfacing at one edge of the fabric.
-
4
Pin the two fabrics together with sewing pins, positioned 1-inch apart. Sew the fabrics together with a top stitch on all sides with a sewing machine. Leave the three-inch space unsewn.
-
5
Press your fingers through the three-inch opening and pull the blanket out through the hole to turn the blanket right-side out. Finish the blanket by making a top-stitch with your sewing machine to close the three-inch space.
