How to Make a Felt Chicken
Making a felt chicken can be a fun way to welcome the spring. Since the craft is fairly simple, young children can join in the fun and learn some basic sewing techniques. Once finished, the craft can be hung up in the kitchen, in a child's room, used as a centerpiece or even made into a Christmas ornament. With some basic sewing skills, you'll be ready to create your chicken.

1
Lay one of your larger pieces of felt down and trace the outline of the chicken. Begin by making the body as an oval, then make two lines for the neck and a circle for the head. Alternately, you can trace a picture of a chicken to make it more accurate.

2
Place the felt with a drawing of the chicken on top of the other 9-by-9-inch piece of felt. Cut out both pieces along the lines of the drawing.

3
Use a simple running stitch (in and out) to sew around the chicken's body, attaching the felt pieces together and stopping at the bottom of the oval.
-
4
Cut out two small black circles for the eyes of the chicken and an orange triangle for the beak. Glue them to the chicken's face.
-
5
Draw two chicken legs on your orange felt by drawing two parallel lines and then a fork shape at the end of the lines. Cut them out and set them aside.
-
6
Take your stuffing and place it inside of the chicken until you are satisfied with its size. It shouldn't be overstuffed, but it should be stuffed enough so that it is visible.
-
7
Sew the bottom of the chicken using a running stitch.
