How to Make a Homemade Flat Loofah
Loofahs are plants that produce long seedpods with fibers that are excellent for exfoliating. Homemade flat loofah exfoliants are a good way to potentially save money while using natural resources to bathe. In addition, flat loofahs make a thoughtful gift. You can easily and inexpensively obtain a loofah from a farmer's market, or if not, you can order one from a supplier online. Making a flat loofah exfoliating sponge is a relatively straightforward process.

1
Find a weak spot on your loofah gourd, and use your fingernail to peel back the skin. Peel back all of the skin of the loofah to expose the fibers underneath that you will be working with.
-
2
Remove the mass of fiber with your hand.
-
-
3
Use a knife to slice the mass into flat sections of the thickness that you desire.
-
4
Make a solution of bleach in water, using 1 cup of bleach in 3 gallons of water. Place your loofah into a bucket of the solution and bleach it for a few hours to remove any unattractive dark spots.
-
5
Remove your loofah from the solution and place it into the sun to allow it to dry. The loofah, when dry, will be ready for use as a bath product.
