How to Make Male Threaded PVC
Male threaded PVC pipe has the threads on the outside of the pipe rather than the inside. These threads are made with a hand-held PVC threading tool, which is available at most home improvement stores in the plumbing section. Any time you choose to thread PVC pipe, it is important that you also use thread sealing tape or pipe sealer to prevent leaks in the pipe system. While the threads give you a much stronger bond between the pipes, they are not by themselves leak-resistant. Does this Spark an idea?

Load the PVC pipe threader with the correct size cartridge you will need for the size pipe you are using. After you have created the male thread, you will have to produce the female thread with the same cutting cartridge. The female pipe threader is sometimes included with the male pipe threader in the same package.

Slide the end of the pipe that you want to thread into the hole in the middle of the pipe threader. Be very careful to hold the threader as straight as possible at the top of the pipe.

3
Twist the threader onto the pipe. You will see curls of PVC material ejected from the top of the threader. If you are more comfortable twisting the pipe into the threader, this works just as well. As long as the curl remains in one piece, you are using the tool correctly. If not, back the threader off of the pipe and inspect the threads for damage. If you find that the threads are not evenly spaced, use a saw to cut off the bad threads and start over.

Cut the threads into the pipe to a distance of at least 1 inch. It is better, when using PVC pipe, to have too many threads than not enough.
