DIY Pirate Sash

Sashes were used by pirates to hold pistols or cutlasses.

Pirate costumes are a popular choice for people to wear on Halloween or to costume-theme parties. A pirate sash is a knotted section of cloth that you wear around your waist under a broad leather belt, or on its own. You can make your own sash for a pirate outfit by cutting a long section of a thick cotton cloth and knotting it around your waist.

Things You'll Need

• Cloth
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Cut a section of cloth about twice as long as your waist, and 15 inches wide.

2. Pass the cloth around your waist and hold the two ends in front of you.

3. Pull the left end so that it is significantly longer than the right end.

4. Adjust the position of the sash so that you are holding the left end over your right leg.

5. Pass your right hand over the left and feed the right end of the sash under the left side.

6. Pull on the two ends to pull the sash tight against your hips. Arrange it so that the short end is hanging over the long end. Adjust the tightness for comfort.
