How to Make a Clay Pot Snowman With Arms

A clay pot can be turned in to a fun winter decoration.

Winter is the perfect time to get together with family or friends to make crafts. Creating a clay pot snowman is a fun way to turn a common pot into something decorative for the holiday season. The snowman can be used as festive holiday decor or as a gift.

Things You'll Need

• Round foam ball
• Clay pots
• Paint
• Paint brush
• Glue
• Buttons
• Twigs
• Cloth or scarf
• Wire
• Pom-poms

Instructions

1. Use a 1-inch paintbrush to paint three small or medium-size clay pots white with satin or flat interior paint. Pay special attention to the ridge around the clay pot, but do not paint the interior, bottom or top lip of the pot. Apply multiple coats, allowing the paint to dry between each coat, until the clay is no longer visible through the paint.

2. Trim the bottom one-fourth off a round foam ball to create a flat surface. Choose a foam ball that, once trimmed, covers the entire base of the pot. Paint the ball white using a paint brush and paint.

3. Glue the clay pots together with super glue or hot glue, starting with one pot upside down on a table. Glue the base of a second pot to the base of the first pot, giving you two pots glued end to end. Glue the rim of the third pot to the rim of the second pot.

4. Glue the foam ball using super glue or hot glue to the base of the third pot, which should be at the top of the stack of pots. You will now have a stack of pots, starting with an upside-down pot at the base with a right-side up pot on top of it, followed by an upside-down pot, finished with a foam ball at the top.

5. Paint any exposed clay, including the unpainted base of the top pot, so that the entire project is completely white.

6. Glue buttons in a line on to the snowman, with one on each pot, to create the traditional snowman buttons.

7. Paint two eyes and a mouth on the foam ball to create the snowman face. Stick a twig in the foam to create the nose.

8. Glue two twigs on each side of the top pot to create the snowman arms. Leave these unpainted.

9. Wrap cloth or a toy scarf around the base of the foam ball to create the scarf and glue in place.

10. Glue a craft pom-pom on each side of the snowman face to create ear muffs. Bend a piece of wire and insert it in to the foam just inside of the pom-poms to create the headband for the ear muffs.
