How to Clean the Outside of a Tuba

Show your pride in your tuba by keeping the outside clean.

If you play a musical instrument, you know it is important to properly care for it. Keeping your instrument in top condition shows responsibility and may even help your instrument to sound better. If the tuba is your instrument of choice, you can clean the outside of your tuba with a few common household items.

Things You'll Need

• Liquid dish soap
• Water
• Deep sink or bathtub
• Towel

Instructions

1. Take your tuba completely apart.

2. Place all the parts except the valves into a deep sink or bathtub filled with warm water and liquid dish soap. Do not use hot water.

3. Let the parts soak for about 10 minutes.

4. Rinse each part in clean water.

5. Dry excess water with a towel. Let the tuba parts sit until dry.

6. Put all the tuba parts back together.

Tips & Warnings

• Use the time when the tuba parts are soaking to clean the valves of the tuba.

• A Rotor Tuba should only be cleaned by a professional. Do not clean it at home.
